It would be a mistake to think that because Bibhu Mohapatra’s self-titled label is only less than two years old, he is in any way a novice to fashion.  The Indian-born but New York-based designer has been leaving a mark on fashion for over ten years, with an A-list clientele as evidence.

The former J. Mendel design director responsible for turning around the label has embarked on his own journey. Utilizing familiar Indian fabrics and exotic patterns, Mohapatra has designed with the intensity and intricacy of an artist. Cross-cuts, asymmetrical lines and playful ruffles all make his work stand out as much as they compliment women.

After a decade of working and repackaging other luxury labels such as Halston and J. Mendel, where he dressed such starlets as Angleina Jolie, Cate Blanchet and Sienna Miller, it is Bibhu Mohapatra’s turn in the spotlight and he’s ready for his close up.
